TEAM
Pete and Jade Chong are the directors of SURGE and belong to Pennant Hills Baptist Church. Pete works as a doctor and is married to Jade. Jade, after working as a physio and doing MTS (ministry training strategy) at Cumbo College, is now enjoying staying at home looking after their son Elias.
Pete likes exploring unique and unusual places, watching ‘Man vs Wild’, and looking at anything weird that makes him go ‘wow that’s nuts!’ (thus explaining why he likes Man vs Wild). Jade likes designing and creating things like cards or invitations, and researching random topics on wikipedia. Together they love rearranging or repainting rooms in their home multiple times!
Pete and Jade were both deeply encouraged by how God so powerfully used SurgeConference2010 to convict many hearts of service and change many lives- Bring on SurgeConference2011! They are SO excited about working with a new team this year- a number of whom were delegates at SurgeConference2010, who were sold by the way in which God could use this conference to create more wholehearted Jesus followers, and who therefore wanted to be a part of it!
On that note, let us introduce the team to you …
Dan serves as the community groups director at Kirkplace, Kogarah. During the week he studies at Moore Theological College to grow the gifts God’s entrusted to him to serve Him for Jesus’ glory. That’s also why he is excited to be on the SURGE team – seeing the ‘Aha!’ moment when Christians realise they’ve not only been called to a life of service, but that God has also placed them uniquely in the body of Christ to serve with the other members.
- ‘That’s when you really see them take off, and SURGE is the airport! (And I guess I’m one of the randoms at the check-in desk!)’
Fayette was born and bred in Brisbane, is married to Dan, and serves at Kirkplace overseeing a team which connects newcomers and fringe people to the growth groups. During the week she works as the Project Administrator and Personal Assistant to the Executives of her company. She loves meeting up with girls one-to-one and hanging out with Dan and friends. Fat is on the SURGE team this year because she loves working with a great bunch of gifted and fun people, and she has been personally learning a lot more about serving God’s family.
- ‘I believe it’s a conference that everyone should be involved with!’
Rachel attends All Saints Anglican Church, West Lindfield and is currently studying primary education at Macquarie University. She loves team sports, travel, reading, the ocean and has a heart for speaking up for the poor and oppressed. Some people say she’s anal, but she likes to call it neat and organised! Rach is so excited God has called her to be a part of the SURGE team.
- ‘It is a true privilege to band together with like-minded people who have a heart for Jesus, and witness Christians giving their hearts and lives to Him as they seek to serve His glorious and eternal kingdom.’
Dave attends church @ the hut in fairfield. He wants to be a vine that bears fruit for the honour and love of the Lord Jesus and wants to be part of SURGE to help brothers and sisters along with this.
James (or Jimbo as he is more commonly known) is a 1st year student at Moore Theological College and loves getting to read big fat nerdy books about Jesus (especially the Bible!). He has recently started as a student pastor at Chatswood Baptist and is really excited to see God’s church taking up her mission not to be served, but to serve! He joined SURGE to help other Christians catch the infectious servant love that Jesus has for us and wants us to have for others. He also loves Coke Zero, steak, Star Wars, polishing his bald head and has recently become hooked on early morning 10km beach runs.
Amanda attends South West Chinese Christian Church (SWCCC). During the week she enjoys working as a clinical psychologist (but can’t read your mind!). She really likes eating and wishes she could be a Masterchef judge just so she could eat their food everyday. Amanda’s on the SURGE team as she is excited about thinking through ways that we can be serving God and His people in all aspects of life.
James “Watto” has just finished his business degree and is excited to be starting a new job in 2011 working as a finance graduate at Johnson and Johnson. He attends Christ Church St Ives and has a keen interest in music, plays the bass guitar and loves all sports, especially soccer. Watto is on the SURGE team as he is passionate about seeing people being deeply convicted by the power of the gospel and seeing their lives being transformed as a result.
